A strange disease and a Hmong man's dream of a cottage on the top of a mountain

22/04/2021 23:21

As the main laborer to support 3 people in the family, but since the day he contracted a lung disease, Hoang Van Sinh (26 years old) could only hang around the house. The flash flood at the end of March 2020, continued to wash away all that remained in his house.

On the last day of March, when Sinh's illness was not completely over, a flash flood suddenly hit, taking everything away. The corn field is gone, the food is gone, the house is tilted to one side.

Two years ago, after going to work once, Sinh felt intermittent pain around his abdomen. However, thinking about the amount of money sent home for his children, Sinh tried to control the pain and continued to follow his brothers in the village to work for the Kinh people.

On the 3rd day, the pain became worse, so Sinh asked Hoang to take him to the district hospital. Sinh came home with a big pot of medicine. For a week he ate porridge and took medicine, but the pain was still getting worse. By day 7, Sinh could not get out of bed. One night, he cried out in pain and fell asleep, his wife had to rush up the hill, down the village, sobbing, calling for Mr. Hoang to take Sinh to the hospital.

In the end, Sinh's wife broke off to sell the last 2 calves to her husband to pay for hospital fees. On holding the money to sell 2 calves, Sinh cried like a child.

Three months after the surgery, Sinh was able to walk again. But since then, his health has deteriorated, and he can no longer follow his brothers to work for the Kinh people.

For a year, he stayed at home, pruning corn fields and taking care of two children instead of his wife. But the flash flood swept away from what was left. After that flood, Sinh's house built for 2 years also began to tilt to one side. He went into the woods, trying to find sturdy square timbers that could be inserted into the poles of the house.

Since then, each pillar of Sinh's house has 3-4 more supporting trees. The wife's parents came to visit, Sinh was very shy! Because many times his parents-in-law asked when to rebuild, Sinh still did not know how to answer.

Listening to Mr. Hoang Van Sinh's story, Vietlott cooperated with the Bao Lam District (Cao Bang Town) to participate in building a gratitude house for Sinh and his wife.
